Self -Compassion: Quarantine Edition (meditation included)
Society has done an incredible job at convincing us that our value is in our productivity. It’s a theme that colors our lives an insidious way. It’s an odorless, colorless poison that seeps deep into us. It fails to acknowledge our intrinsic value.
Symptoms include: guilt when resting, feeling that you’re “behind” in life, burnout, comparison and sometimes depression (to name a few).
Our time in quarantine might be intensifying one or a few of these symptoms.
The best remedy I know for any of this is compassion. It’s the same compassion I know to extend to others, yet so many of us forget to give it to ourselves.
Sometimes I have to say things out loud, like “this is good, you’re killin’ it” or on days like today, when asked “what’s the plan?” I declare “I’m chillin’ today” and I say it with my chest!
The rest is as important as any other pursuit, if not, more so. When I pour into myself, I overflow and from there I can pour into the world.
