  1. It’s not too late. Your expertise is valuable.

What do people ask you for advice about? What can you easily talk about for hours? That’s either your zone of genius or a hint about the direction to go.

  2. Community first. Ultimately, at its core, content creation is about service. From the outside looking in, it looks deceivingly self centered. More now than ever, it’s about what you can give. Some stars burn fast but what lasts is connecting, caring and serving. Healthy boundaries always, but it’s not about you or brands. It’s about them.

In a way, knowing this is liberating.

  3. Trust is everything and it’s not for sale. Always think long term. Go slow and one day it will look like it happened overnight.

I like to say go slow so you can go fast. Beware of instant gratification traps. Your word is all you have.

  4. “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” James Clear, Atomic Habits.

Remove any barriers to creation. Have a set up that’s always ready to go. It can be a small corner. My first set up was a white wall with a tiny folding table that I could store under my bed. Make it easy for yourself to say yes. Whatever stops you, address that. Prepare for the resistance that you know is always going to sabotage your best intentions. In other words, what are the main excuses you always have for not pursuing your idea? Think ahead and solve those problems ahead of time. Don’t allow anything in your power to change to stand between you and your vision.

  5. Authenticity is paramount. Not only are there people out there who need to see and hear someone exactly like you, but not being yourself is a ticking time bomb. It’s not sustainable and will threaten to kill any joy you might’ve experienced creating. The facade will crack.

  6. Consistency and frequency are not the same. When your favorite show is on, you know it comes on every Sunday night at 9pm. That’s consistent. I know what day it is, what time it is, what it’s going to be about and I know where to find it. Somewhere along the line we got our wires crossed on these two words (consistency vs frequency). Design your schedule to fit your life and keep adjusting as needed.

Bonus: You have to assign a part of your brain as “the manager”. The same way you show up to work you’re told to do to get a certain result is the same way you have to train yourself into paying yourself in that kind of time and effort.

The reason people say “follow your passion” is because you have to be at least a little obsessed to get through the really hard days. That passion that we can sometimes cut ourselves off from because it feels like we have too much to lose if we go for for it is the fuel that gets us through the lows.

A lot of us have been trained to wait. There’s a wait to be asked, a wait to be told, a wait to be chosen, a wait to be casted. You know you have this world inside of you. I can almost guarantee, no one is coming to pick you up, wipe your tears and pull what’s special out of you. You are the damsel and the prince in that story arc.

There are plenty of ways you can create content without being the one on camera.

Take this YouTube channel for example. This video is makeup focused, no face. Plenty of value and not a face in sight.

Anyway, that’s all for now.
